Hair toning

Hair toning in Warsaw is a treatment that corrects the shade without permanently changing the color or damaging the structure of the hair. At PIED-DE-POULE, we select a toner for a specific effect—cooler, warmer, or neutral. Schedule an appointment and see what we can do for your color.

What is shade correction?

Hair toning is a coloring treatment based on toner—an ammonia-free product that deposits pigment on the outer layer of the hair. The cuticle scales remain closed, leaving the structure of the hair strands intact. The effect lasts up to four weeks and gradually fades—without a sharp contrast of regrowth.

We most often tone hair after lightening. This step locks in the color and neutralizes the yellow or orange undertones that appear after bleaching. Toner adds depth and shine to strands that bleaching alone doesn’t provide.

Color correction on blonde hair is another popular option—a cool ash, a warm honey, or a platinum. The shade chosen depends on the base and the desired effect. For natural hair, the treatment is more subtle—it slightly cools or warms the color, evens out tones, and conceals the first gray strands without permanent damage.

This treatment also works well as a standalone color correction—without prior lightening. The effect is subtle, but it visibly improves the appearance of the hair and evens out the tone.

The price of hair toning at our salon depends on hair length and the scope of the treatment. If you’re looking for hair toning at a hairdresser in Warsaw, the price is determined individually during a consultation, which we conduct before each treatment.

A contraindication is very poor hair condition—excessively porous or damaged strands may absorb pigment unevenly. In such cases, we first recommend reconstruction and equalization of hair porositya, and only then shade correction.

The procedure is often performed as the last step after changing the color to a lighter shade— locks in the color and stabilizes the effect. If you’re also planning to refresh your roots, it’s worth checking option to even out the darker shade at the roots which I performedWe use it separately or together with tone correction.

How do we perform shade correction?

01
Color evaluation and toner selection

We analyze the current shade, undertones, and condition of the hair. We select a toner—cool, warm, or neutral—so that the result is predictable and consistent with the client's expectations.

02
Hair preparation

We wash or prepare the hair for treatment, depending on its condition. For lightened hair, we assess the evenness of the base before applying the product.

03
Toner application

Apply the product evenly to the entire length of the hair or to selected sections. The exposure time depends on the depth of correction desired—usually 10 to 30 minutes.

04
Inspect and rinse

Monitor color development and rinse off at the appropriate time. Excessive exposure time may shift the color beyond the intended effect.

05
Effect evaluation and correction

After rinsing, assess the resulting tone. If necessary, apply toner to areas that have absorbed pigment unevenly.

06
Care and recommendations

We apply a cuticle-sealing preparation and discuss home care – what products to use to ensure the color lasts as long as possible.

FAQ

  • How is toning different from dyeing?

Toner doesn’t open the cuticle or penetrate deeply into the hair structure. It changes shade temporarily—the effect lasts up to four weeks and gradually fades without visible regrowth.

  • Does shade correction damage hair?

No, ammonia-free products work on the hair’s surface. The treatment is safe even for lightened hair, provided its condition allows for even pigment absorption.

  • After how long should the treatment be repeated?

Typically every four weeks, but this depends on the toner color and the intensity of your home care routine. Cool blondes may need to be refreshed more often.

  • Will the treatment cover gray hair?

Partially – with a few percent gray hair, the toner evens out the color and conceals gray strands. With a larger percentage of gray hair, the result will be less predictable and require consultation.

  • Can I come in just for a tone correction, without prior lightening?

Yes, correcting your skin tone without prior lightening is a fully fledged treatment. It slightly warms or cools your color, evens out your tone, and enhances radiance without any additional steps.
